Wall Street Trade - US Sector Recaps.Energy: · Venoco (VQ) plunged, after its CEO said the company will get lower production in the Sacramento Basin that expected in 2010. · Airgas (ARG) rose, after news that the company plans to appeal a court ruling that would allow its next annual meeting to be held in January. Airgas is fighting a $5.5B takeover bid by Air Products (APD), which may use the ruling to take control of Airgas at the January meeting. · Chesapeake Energy (CHK) climbed, after Cnooc (883 HK) will pay $1.08B for a one-third stake in the company’s Eagle Ford project in Texas. · Crude Oil for November delivery fell 0.4% to settle at $82.25 a barrel, after forecasts that the US dollar’s weakness against other currencies may be ending.
Banks: · BlackRock (BLK) rose, after its Taiwan unit said it expects AUM to grow 10% a year for the next four years. BlackRock also plans to start an Asian fixed income fund next year and plans to sell an international equity fund in the Q1 of next year.
Consumer Goods: · DineEquity (DIN) rose, after the company said it will sell 20 of its Applebee’s Grills in Virgina to Apple Investors Group. · Gymboree (GYMB) rallied, after it agreed to be acquired by Bain Capital for $65.40 a share in cash or $1.8B. · Sherwin-Williams (SHW) dropped, after analysts at Stephens Group cut their recommendation to Equal Weight from Overweight and their price target to $78 from $80. · American Reprographics (ARP) plunged, after the company cut its estimate for 2010 adjusted earnings to $0.09 per share at most, versus $0.17 per share, analysts were anticipating.
Technology: · Citrix Systems (CTXS) dropped, after analysts at Credit Suisse said in a note that the company’s sales in the Q3 were slower than the Q2 and they expect a sequential decline in Citrix’s XenDesktop bookings and license revenue.
Healthcare: · Allos Therapeutics (ALTH) A clinical trial showed its drug Folotyn apparead to be at least as effective than Roche’s Tarceva, for lung cancer and may help patients live longer. · Immunogen (IMGN) climbed, after the company said Novartis will pay a $45M fee for exclusive rights to its technology that uses antibodies to deliver cancer drugs against specific tumor types. Immunogen may receive more than $200M for each cancer drug that results from the agreement. · Warner Chilcott (WCRX) rallied, after the company announced that the FDA approved its next generation drug for the treatment of osteoporosis. · Alexza Pharmaceuticals (ALXA) plunged, after it said that the FDA rejected its experimental treatment for use against agitation in patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
