Energy:
· Crude Oil for December delivery fell $.63 to $76.31 a barrel, after a report showed that confidence among US consumers declined this month, signaling potentially that fuel demand will drop.
· Natural Gas for December delivery gained 2.3 cents to settle at $4.393 a barrel on the colder than normal weather forecasted for the winter which would raised demand for the heating fuel.
· Sunoco (SUN) – The stock dropped, after analysts at Goldman Sachs cut their recommendation to sell from Neutral, citing ongoing restructuring that is not on-track to yield a materially improved company.
Consumer Goods:
· Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF) – The stock rose, after the company posted adjusted Q3 earnings of $0.30 per share, above estimates.
· Dollar General (DG) – The stock rose on its first day of trading, after KKR rose $716M in its IPO, selling shares at the low end of the range it sought, at $21.
· JC Penney (JCP) – The stock rose, after the company raised its annual profit forecast to as much as $1.08 from $0.90 per share, citing better-than-expected results for the year so far.
· Nordstrom (JWN) – The stock fell, after the company said its gross margin will increase only by 20bp, while analysts in 2009, while analysts at Deutsche Bank expected a 34bp increase.
Industrials:
· Goodyear Tire & Rubber (GT) – The stock rose, after analysts at Goldman Sachs raised their recommendation to buy from Neutral, citing a much more favorable supply/demand balance in 2010 and sizable earnings improvement.
Insurance:
· Assured Guaranty (AGO) – The stock jumped, after Moody’s cut the company’s financial strength rating to Aa3 from Aa2, which would still allow it to write new muni insurance.
Media:
· Walt Disney (DIS) – The stock rose, after the company posted a Q4 profit increase of 18%, higher than expected by analysts, on improved fees from pay TV operators that carry the company’s ESPN sports programming.
Technology:
· Juniper Networks (JNPR) – The stock climbed, after analysts at Oppenheimer raised their recommendation to Outperform from Market Perform.
